Matt's parents came to visit on their way down from Michele's (Canandaigua, in upstate NY) to Virginia. So Matt and I took off on Saturday to go white-water rafting on the Indian and Hudson River near Lake George. We left at 4:30am after 4 hours of sleep, so we were a little tired, and it was definitely COLD (despite the wet suits and several layers underneath), but it was also super, super fun. The entire time on the river (about 4-1/2 hours) we saw literally two buildings, and under ten people other than those in our three rafts. It was just amazingly pristine. I was really surprised, too, at how beautiful the fall leaves were--here in Manhattan very few leaves have even started changing color, but upstate peak leaf time is earlier, so it was great to be able to experience that in such a beautiful setting. Oh yeah, and the rafting was really fun too. We didn't fall out, but we did get fully soaked. We are thinking of going back in the spring sometime, too, to experience some of the higher turbulence. Anyway. I have pictures, but they are on a waterproof disposable camera, so it may take a while for me to actually put them up here. The only funny thing about this trip was that last weekend was also the world's largest garage sale (no minor event!!!)....which sounds like a joke, but it ended up stranding us in Warrensburg for hours with no way out other than the one road that was blocked by the garage sale. So we got home quite a bit later than we thought, but it was fine.
On Sunday during lunchtime we all went out to Queens for about an hour to a free apple festival at the Queens County Farm. We didn't actually get any apples (or pumpkins), but we did see some animals, and drink some very good cider (some of us anyway). Here are some pictures. We had a great time, and Naomi had a great time this weekend hanging out with her Brice grandparents (and Lancer!):
