Update!!

Our camera ran out of battery in California, and we accidentally left the recharger at the beach house. One of the Cannons picked it up for us, so we'll be able to start taking pictures again soon....but in the meantime, I thought I would give a little update on some of the things Naomi has been up to lately.

About a month ago, Naomi shifted from crawling on her belly to crawling on her hands and knees. A couple of weeks after that, she started using furniture to pull herself up to stand and to cruise. Then about a week and a half ago she started using walls to bring herself up to a standing position (you can see her in the process of doing just this in one of the pictures earlier on the blog). Yesterday and today, Naomi has been trying to stand up on her own--which actually works for up to three seconds sometimes before she falls. Matt and I have thought she'd be a relatively late walker because she is just SO chubby...but it looks like we may have been wrong on that. Whatever else may be said of Naomi (and we think a great many good things may be said of her), one thing is definite: she is REALLY motivated to move and explore. She really WANTS each new step--rolling over, crawling, standing, etc--as she works for it. She is driven, and none too cautious!

As far as "talking" goes, Naomi is still pretty stuck on "Dadadada" and "Babababa", resisting all attempts to cajole her into "Mamamama". She likes to swim, likes people, likes the dog, likes the ocean, likes eating sand, likes pretty much whatever we feed her now--and doesn't dislike much other than being changed and being forced to hold still. She can wave bye-bye, and possibly say an alternative form of "finished" in baby sign (we have about eight baby signs we've been doing with her for the past six weeks or so, but we're not very diligent about using them, and she has not picked up on any of the others). She can pick up cheerios and put them in her mouth, and she would REALLY like to attempt to feed herself her own baby food (thank you very much!) if only we would let her grab her spoon.

She is one fun baby!
